The Killer Instinct

Posted: May 1, 2014 in Uncategorized

When did they know?

When did the San José Sharks realize that they would lose the series? Or more importantly when did the LA Kings know that they would win it.

After the New York Islanders won their fourth consecutive series, I remember a comment made by HNIC commentator Harry Neale who said something to the effect of…

‘There are two teams involved in a Stanley Cup final…. one team thinks they can win it, while the other team KNOWS they can win it. It’s the difference knowing and thinking that determines a winner’

Wise words of wisdom from a former NHL Head Coach with an advanced degree in psychology.

Psychologists will also tell you that you people not only struggle with a fear of failure, but equally a fear of success, feeling that in some way this good fortune and achievement could not or should not be bestowed on themselves. It’s the essence of a motivational mantra delivered to Russell Wilson, the quarterback of 2014 SuperbBowl winner Seattle Seahawks, by his dad.

“Why not you Russell?” and which Wilson turned into “Why not us?”

In the next round of the Stanley C wup playoffs the Hawks, the Kings and the Bruins all KNOW that they can win. Some of the Ducks do as well. This is going to be great!

Linden Calling

Linden calling from the office above

Phoney shot blocking has bitten the dust

The Ice Capades are coming, cause we ain’t gotno-games

Our engine stopped running, we’re stuck in first gear

A nucleus error, or so we are told

And Linden is coming down, to throw Torts in the River
